When Norma was given an entry to the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours many people were surprised. Not least because, at the time, nobody had even seen the firm’s M200P LMP2 actually run! When it was first shown off in the pits its basic design made it clear that the car was developed on a small budget, but it was explained by the designer that the car was built ‘to the spirit of the 2011 rules’, albeit fitted with the purpose built Judd DB engine (which would not be legal under the new rules). Later, during the official ACO press conference, the Norma was cited by the ACO as an example of how LMP2 would not be a spec series in 2011. Few, however, were convinced.
